Singer, musician Riikka Hänninen has been selected as the project coordinator for the Making space for artistry – equity for disabled artists and artists who are Sign Language users -project. She starts in the position on 20th February and will continue until the end of the project until February 2024.

The position was previously held by Johanna Mattila, who is moving back to her own artistic work. We thank Johanna for her wonderful contribution!

Riikka’s employer is the disabled artists’ association Cultural Association Finland’s Eucrea. Eucrea is the main collaborating partner in the Making space for artistry project, carried out by Culture for All. Riikka’s main responsibility will be organizing artist meetings and workshops. The aim is to create space for peer support and development in the artistic profession.

Riikka has studied music education at the Sibelius Academy and has extensive experience as an artist and facilitator.

“I am a born blind singer and musician. Both artistry and disability are an every day experience for me. I dream of an active community of disabled artists and artists who are Sign Language users, where artists share practical tips with each other as well as support in the more rougher patches,” says Riikka.

A warm welcome to the team, Riikka!
