Accessibility Checklist for Organizers of Entrance Examinations in Performing Arts published

As part of the Making Space for Artistry project, accessibility checklist aimed at organizers of entrance examinations in performing arts has been published in Finnish and English. The Swedish version will be published later. This checklist helps improve the accessibility of entrance examinations for diverse artists. Our goal is to open doors to more schools and universities for disabled artists and artists who use sign language.

The checklist provides an easy way to review essential accessibility measures. The measures are related to planning the admission process, reviewing admission criteria and curriculum, information and communication, and accessibility of entrance exam tasks. The list has been made with especially performing arts in mind, but it can be adapted to admission processes of also other fields.

The publishers of the list are Making space for artistry Project / Culture for All Service and the Degree Programme in Theatre Arts at Tampere University. We collaborated to make the entrance exams of the degree programme more accessible and wrote down this checklist based on the experiences and discussions we had.

The project Making space for artistry – equity for disabled artists and artists who are Sign Language users has ended in autumn 2024. It was funded by Kone Foundation and carried out by Culture for All Service.
